Safari Itinerary
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a representative from Rocky Africa Experience and transferred to Arusha, the starting point of your safari. Depending on your arrival time, relax at your lodge or explore the town and nearby markets. In the evening, meet your professional safari guide for a briefing about your upcoming adventure.
Accommodation
Forest Hill Hotel
After breakfast, fly from Arusha Airport to Kogatende Airstrip in Northern Serengeti. Enjoy aerial views of the Rift Valley and Serengeti plains. Begin your first game drive in the Northern Serengeti migration safari zone, home to large herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, giraffes, lions, and cheetahs.
Accommodation
Mara Migration Camp
Spend two full days exploring the Northern Serengeti, focusing on tracking the Great Migration. During the migration season (June to October), thousands of wildebeest and zebras gather along the Mara River, preparing to cross into Kenya’s Maasai Mara. Witness one of the most dramatic wildlife events on Earth as animals plunge into crocodile-filled waters while predators wait nearby. Your experienced guide will position you in the best locations for viewing and photography. Game drives are conducted in the early morning and late afternoon when wildlife is most active. In between, enjoy bush picnics or relax at your camp surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.
Accommodation
Mara Migration Camp
Today, explore the less-visited areas of Lamai and Wogakuria in the Northern Serengeti. These regions offer spectacular scenery, fewer vehicles, and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Discover rocky kopjes (ideal for spotting big cats), open plains, and riverine forests. Look out for lions resting on rock outcrops, leopards in acacia trees, and elephants moving across the plains. Large herds of wildebeest and zebras continue to dominate the landscape.
Accommodation
Mara Migration Camp
After breakfast, depart the Serengeti and journey south toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Enjoy scenic views and wildlife sightings along the way as the landscape transitions from open plains to lush highlands. Arrive at the crater rim in the afternoon and take in breathtaking panoramic views of the Ngorongoro Crater, often referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World.” The cool highland climate provides a refreshing contrast to the plains.
Accommodation
Marera Valley Lodge
After an early breakfast, descend approximately 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive. The crater floor is home to over 25,000 animals, offering one of the best chances to see the Big Five in a single day. Spot lions, elephants, buffaloes, zebras, hippos, flamingos, and—with luck—the rare black rhino. Enjoy a scenic picnic lunch near the hippo pool before ascending the crater and beginning your return journey to Arusha. Arrive in the late afternoon and transfer to the airport or your hotel, marking the end of your unforgettable safari adventure.
