Safari Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK), a representative from Kili Roam Adventures will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. If you arrive a day before your safari, you will have time to relax after your journey and prepare for the adventure ahead. In the evening or at a scheduled time, your safari guide will meet you for a pre-safari briefing. This is the perfect opportunity to go over your itinerary, discuss what to expect during the trip, and ensure you have all the necessary items for your safari. We recommend planning to arrive at least one day prior to the start of your safari to allow for rest and any unforeseen travel delays.

After a short briefing in the morning, you will be taken to the Tarangire National Park. The park with its endless tree savannah including the impressive baobab trees and seasonal marshes, is also home to the largest elephant herds in northern Tanzania. In addition to elephants you are also likely to spot giraffes, buffaloes, lions, zebras, wildebeests and other types of antelopes and gazelles. Upon arrival at the park, your guide will open the roof of the vehicle and the extensive wildlife viewing will begin. Lunch will be taken at a picnic spot and in the afternoon, you will get to see more of this amazing and beautiful park. In the late afternoon you will arrive at the Karatu Villa Lodge, located outside of the park for your overnight stay.

After breakfast, your journey with Kili Roam Adventures begins as you depart toward the Great Rift Valley, passing through the vibrant towns of Mto wa Mbu and Karatu in the cool highlands of the Ngorongoro region. Upon entering the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you’ll pause for a scenic lookout over the vast Ngorongoro Crater—an unforgettable moment to admire one of Africa’s most iconic landscapes. Continuing around the crater rim, you’ll descend along the rugged road (fondly known as the “African massage”), passing traditional Maasai villages along the way. Your next stop is the world-renowned Serengeti National Park. At the Naabi Hill Gate, take a short walk to a viewpoint offering panoramic views across the endless Serengeti plains. You’ll then proceed to the Seronera Area, the central hub of the Serengeti and home to a rich concentration of wildlife, including the legendary Big Five—lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard. En route, enjoy a packed lunch amidst the wilderness. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at Kati Kati Tented Camp, nestled deep within the bush. The remote setting offers a truly wild safari atmosphere, and as night falls, the starlit sky above the Serengeti will leave you in awe.

Accommodation

Narudi Tented Camp

The entire day is dedicated to game viewing in the Serengeti National Park. The areas that you will visit depend upon where the migrating herds are (predators usually follow closely behind the trekking animals). During the short rainy season in November and December the herds move from the hills in the north to the plains in the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June they return up north. This circle of life is determined by the rainfalls and the locations of the herds might vary from year to year. Your guide will know where to find the herds and where to see them best. Apart from wildebeests and zebras you might also spot predators such as lions, leopards and cheetahs. You will spend another night at a campsite in the Seronera area.

Accommodation

Narudi Tented Camp

After an early breakfast, your journey with Kili Roam Adventures begins as you leave behind the wildlife-rich Seronera Valley in the Serengeti. The cool morning hours offer a prime opportunity to spot active predators, so keep your camera ready as you drive out of the park. On the way back toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you’ll make a special stop at the historic Olduvai Gorge, often referred to as the “Cradle of Mankind.” Here, you’ll visit the small but informative museum and take a short guided tour to learn about the significant paleoanthropological discoveries made in the area—some of the earliest evidence of human evolution. Continuing your journey, lunch will be enjoyed en-route at a designated picnic site. Upon arrival at the crater rim, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the vast Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll descend the steep walls of the caldera and embark on an exciting game drive across the crater floor, home to over 25,000 animals including lions, elephants, rhinos, and an array of birdlife. After this unforgettable experience, you’ll ascend via a different route and continue to the lush highlands of Karatu, where you’ll check in to one of the charming Tanganyika Wilderness Adventure Lodges for a well-deserved night of rest.

Accommodation

Karatu Villa Lodge

After an early breakfast you will drive down into the crater on a steep and narrow road. The slopes are forested but soon the landscape changes to savannah dotted with the occasional acacia tree. Here the wildlife is just breath-taking and with a little luck you might see the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. You should also see warthogs, wildebeests, zebras, hippos and some of the more than 500 bird species of the area. After an entire morning of game viewing and a picnic lunch in the crater you will slowly make your way back to Arusha, where you will arrive in the early evening.
